2011 Police Report: Crime Rate Down in San Ramon

There were fewer violent crime, property crime, DUI and traffic arrests in 2011.

Earlier this month, the released its annual report for 2011.

The crime rate in San Ramon fell from 2010, with fewer violent crime, property crime, DUI and traffic arrests in 2011, according to the San Ramon Police Department. 

The crime rate is calculated by the number of crimes per 1,000 resident. In 2011, the rate was 13.34, down from 17.25 in 2010 and 18.09 in 2009.

"Despite fiscal challenges we face along with many other police departments we continue to provide what I feel to be the safest and finest community in the state," San Ramon Police Chief Scott Holder said. "The efforts and dedication of our staff are indicative of their character and commitment to serving."

Like in 2010, there were no murders in the city and after having six forceable rapes in 2010, there were none in 2011.

The number of robberies went down from 17 to 11 last year and assault and batteries went down from 120 to 95.

Burglaries, thefts and motor vehicle thefts also went down form 2010.

The number of overall traffic citations went down from 12,014 to 10,755. DUI arrests also went down, going from 203 to 166 and DUI accidents fell from 43 to 36. Two people died in accidents, while none died in 2010.

Overall, the number of arrests in the city dropped from 574 to 470.
