Free Holiday Family Fun

Check out the activities fun, free family activities from Walnut Creek to Pleasanton this holiday season.

As Hanukah, Christmas, Kwanza, and other winter holidays approach, our pocketbooks are stretched to the limit. Consider some of these featured free events to turn family fun time into a no-cost activity!

Consider a trip to “Bob’s World Too” in Pleasanton to see the amazing display of holiday lights. This has to be seen to be believed, and my own family goes to "Bob’s World Too" a few times each holiday season to take it all in. Park your car, get out, and walk to view the amazing lights in the backyard. Visit this website to see when Santa and Mrs. Claus are set to visit. You can get your family’s picture or child’s picture taken with Santa, all for free. This is not to be missed from now until the end of December.

Lakeshore Learning has some fun seasonal crafts each Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Dec. 8, to make a mini sled or on Dec. 15 to make a polar bear pencil holder. Your child can even give their creations to others this holiday season as gifts, talk about heartfelt gifts.

The Dougherty Station Library presents “All Ears Reading” on Monday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. This is a great way to encourage emerging readers or just animal loving children to read to someone or something who will not judge them — an animal! On Dec. 15, this library will feature a winter movie and craft, starting at 2 p.m., for children who are six or older.

On Tuesday, Dec 11, the Danville Library features a holiday show brought to us by the Fratello Marionettes. This event runs from 4 p.m. to 4:50 p.m., but get there early to get a seat, as these events are always packed. Return to this library branch from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 12 for an hour of holiday stories and crafts.

There are so many wonderful activities throughout the Tri-Valley this holiday season. Even doing something simple like driving around your neighborhood to look at holiday lights is sure to please the whole family—bring a holiday cd or put on a holiday music session, and you have created your own wholesome family fun night!
