As December winds down into January, there are still plenty of chances for some free fun. Think about making crafts, sing-alongs, menorah lighting, or even special library movies.
Lakeshore Learning in Walnut Creek has three featured crafts Saturdays through the end of the month, all taking place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
On Dec. 15, your budding artist can make a polar bear pencil holder. On Dec. 22, napkin rings for winter are on the schedule and make a perfect holiday decoration. To start of the New Year right, your child can make a party mask to ring in 2013 on Saturday, Dec. 29.
Blackhawk Plaza in Danville also has some fun and free holiday happenings in store for the whole family.
Each Friday, they feature a winter wonderland of snow from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m On Saturday, Dec. 15, your crafty child can work with volunteers from “College Nannies and Tutors” near the play structure from 10:30 a.m. to noon to make some special decorations for the holidays.
On Thursday, Dec. 20 at 11:30 a.m., you can enjoy a winter concert brought to you by Windemere Ranch Middle School students. The Iron Horse Middle School jazz band will perform later that same evening, from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Want to take in some Hannakah lights this holiday season? Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek lights the final candle on their huge menorah on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 6:30 p.m.
On Sunday, Dec. 16 at 3 p.m, the city of San Ramon presents a community chorus where all are invited to sing along with some holiday classics. Held at the Community Center at Central Park, this old-fashioned sing-along is a must!
On Saturday, Dec. 15 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., the whole family can head to the Dougherty Station Library in San Ramon to watch a holiday movie and make a craft. On Dec. 26 and 28 at 2 p.m., this library offers free movies to help rid children of winter break boredom.
The Danville Library hosts “Dances from all Around the World”, from the North to South Pole and back. Enjoy dance and music at this special event on Dec. 18 from 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
The San Ramon Main Library also hosts some movies that won’t cost a dime, as children enjoy their winter break without school. On Dec. 26, 27 and 28 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., head to the library and enjoy a different movie each day. The featured film each day will be appropriate for the entire family to enjoy!
The Dublin Library features a family storytime on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 6:30 p.m. Librarians will read several books and play games with participants. Feel free to don comfortable pajamas and get into the spirit of bedtime stories.
Want to see the movie “Brave”? The Pleasanton Library has an exclusive showing at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec 27. Free tickets will be passed out thirty minutes before the show starts.
Choose the activity that sounds like fun, whether it is just for kids or an event to entice the whole family. Free activities are a terrific way to save some dough with so much expense around the holidays.
