Free Activities For the Kids in May

Activities for the kids in San Ramon, Danville, Dublin and Walnut Creek.

Ready for some free activities for your family to partake in as we begin May? There are plenty of indoor activities to engage young minds, and of course if the weather is nice, our local parks are always a terrific bet!

Consider joining family storytime at the San Ramon Library this Saturday from 11:15 a.m. to noon. Your child can hear several books related to a theme and then create a fun craft afterward. Want an activity later in the day on May 5?  Consider making a Mother’s Day craft at the Dougherty Station Library from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Also on Saturday,  is hosting its monthly carpentry workshop for children. This month, you and your child can work together to make a planter box for your garden. Kits are available at 9 a.m. and they supply all the tools.  If you get there early, you will also score an apron and cool pin.

On May 8 at 3:15 p.m., your middle school aged child can play some fun age-appropriate games at the and also enjoy a snack provided by the library. 

The is hosting “Hummin' & Strummin' with Greg” on Tuesday, May 8 at 3 p.m. This is a great chance for your three- to five-year-old to sing along and dance to music.

Looking for some crafting fun to fill your Saturdays? in Walnut Creek always offers free Saturday crafts from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. On May 5, your child can make a thank you card for his or her teacher in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week. On May 12, your child can honor mom with a special handprint keepsake. They are located at 1929 Mt. Diablo Boulevard in Walnut Creek. 

On Saturday, May 12, consider heading to in Dublin for your child to make a picture frame planter box, which could also make a nice present for the special mom in your child’s life. You must pre-register for classes at Lowe’s, even though they are free, so visit: http://lowesbuildandgrow.com/pages/default.aspx to sign up.

How about taking in some baseball on Saturdays throughout the month of May? Consider watching Canyon Creek Little League’s “Majors” play at Memorial Park in San Ramon. Check the website to get the weekly Saturday game schedule: www.canyoncreekll.org/

Grab swimsuits and head to in San Ramon,  in Danville or in Danville and let your children romp around on hot days in their water features. Pack a picnic lunch and make a day of it!

No matter where you go, you are sure to have fun as a family, whether you watch baseball or make a craft!
