There's a number of free activities for the kids before they go back to school later this month.

It’s time once again for some fun and free activities your children will be happy to participate int.

The first Saturday of the month, Aug. 4, means children ages 5 to 12 can participate in Home Depot’s free kid’s carpentry workshop. Head to the or between 9 a.m. and noon and you and your child can work together or solo to make a cork bulletin board. Get there early to ensure your youngster gets a kit.

Interested in some other carpentry fun? If so, consider reserving a free spot at Aug. 11 or 12 workshop, where participants will make a Shrek Car. Visit here to register your child. Lowe’s is located in Dublin, but there are other locations across the Bay Area that offer this free workshop, so check it out!

Bingo Bonanza continues at our local libraries, and this is always a hit for the whole family, at least in our house! On Aug. 11 at 11:15 a.m., have your child (or even the whole family) wear pajamas for a themed-bingo event at the . Winners will enjoy milk and cookies to go along with the jammies.

Also on August 11, the is hosting a bat-filled event at 1 p.m. Not only will participants see real bats, but they also will learn all about these fascinating creatures thanks to Sulphur Creek Nature Center. Since space is limited, visit here to pre-register.

Is a good, old-fashioned, ice cream social more your thing? in San Ramon is hosting their annual “Ice Cream Social” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 11. The first scoop is free to all, and more scoops are available for purchase for the ice cream lover at heart! Meet community members, play some old-fashioned games and enjoy some San Ramon history along with your ice cream.

How about a movie? Each Wednesday, the San Ramon Main Library features an afternoon matinee from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., with “Robin Hood” on Aug. 1 and “The Little Mermaid” on Aug. 8. If evenings are better, head to the Dougherty Station Library on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. to enjoy a Disney classic each week the whole family will enjoy. Feel free to bring your own munchies to enjoy at the library while watching the movie.

On Aug. 10 at the Dougherty Library, your family can take in a true classic and sing-along to “Grease.” This movie will be shown outdoors at 8:30 p.m., and is sure to remind us all of drive-ins of the past.

Want to watch magic happen right before your eyes? The hosts magician Timothy James on Tuesday, Aug. 7 from 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Make sure to get there early to reserve the best spot and perhaps your own lucky magician will be chosen by Timothy to participate in the show.
