Obituaries: WWII Veteran, Track Coach


Susan Bennett, 77, a resident of Livermore died of a heart attack on Nov. 21. A graduate of UCLA, Susan worked for the US Army Map Service in Washington D.C., but she spent the bulk of her professional life at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Her husband, Ernie, died in 2009. There will be a service commemorating her life on Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. at the Livermore LDS Church on Mocho Street.


Jayne Victoria Chin, a resident of San Ramon, died in her sleep on Dec. 4 at the age of 41 after a battle with brain cancer. Born in Victoria, B.C., Jayne graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. In addition to her husband and two children, Jayne is survived by her father, her brother, her sister, and her nieces and nephews.


Randall F. Black, 53, a resident of Dublin, died on Nov. 23. He is survived by his wife, his parents, his sister, his brother and his two nieces.

Alison Mari Kolb Bump, a resident of Danville, died in her sleep on Nov. 28. She was 42 years old. A graduate of Monte Vista High School, Ali ran track and played soccer. She volunteered as an assistant track coach at San Ramon Valley High School. She is survived by her grandmother, her parents, her husband and their two children.


Friends and family of June Marie Green mourned the death of the Pleasanton resident at a funeral mass on Tuesday. June died on Oct. 11 at the age of 88. A veteran of the United States Navy and the owner of a gift store called Glad Tidings, June is survived by four siblings, four sons, two daughters, two daughters in-law, 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Joe Hipple, 89, a resident of Livermore, died on Dec. 1. A veteran of World War II, Joe landed in Normandy five days after D-Day. After the war he received a Master’s degree from UC Berkeley. Joe taught high school in Pleasant Hill and Nevada City. He is survived by Jane, his wife of 62 years, their two sons and four grandchildren. There will be a memorial for Joe on Jan. 4 at 1 p.m. at Hillcrest Congregational Church in Pleasant Hill.


Hubert Kenneth McNees, Jr., 69, a resident of Pleasanton, died on Nov. 13. An engineer, Ken worked for Firestone, Hughes, Peterbilt and Nummi. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jody, who died in 2010 after a battle with brain cancer. Jody and Ken met in 1968 and were married in 1973. He is survived by his two daughters. There will be a service for Ken at St. Clare's Episcopal Church in Pleasanton on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 2 p.m. A reception will follow.


Friends and family of Charles R. Roberts celebrated the life of the Pleasanton resident on Tuesday. He died on Dec. 6 at the age of 86.


Margaret Sion, 92, a resident of San Ramon, died on Thanksgiving Day. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Margaret spent most of her life on the East Coast, but moved to California in 1997. A devoted and passionate volunteer, Margaret is survived by seven daughters, 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.


Stan Trettenero, 68, a resident of Livermore, died on Dec. 5. Stan earned a degree in gunsmithing from the Colorado School of Trades and worked for the Armanino Gun Shop in South San Francisco before going to work for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as mechanical technologist in 1982. He leaves behind Judy, his wife of 38 years. There will be a service for Stan on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 11 a.m. at Callaghan Mortuary in Livermore.


Gary Herbert Twisselmann, 75, a resident of Pleasanton, died on Nov. 29. Gary played football on college and earned an engineering degree from Cal Poly in 1962, four years after he married Sally Stephen. He is survived by their five children and 12 grandchildren.


Friends and family of James Wright Sr. mourned the death Tuesday of the Livermore resident who died on Dec. 3 at the age of 71. A firefighter, James was Battalion Chief for the Livermore Fire Department. He is survived by Geri, his wife of 50 years, their two children and their three grandchildren.
