Mother's Day is just over a week away and families are thinking of the best ways to celebrate.
On Sunday, Mom will open her presents and maybe the family will got out to brunch or spend the day outdoors somewhere in the Bay Area.
But, on Saturday, May 12, if you are looking teach your kids what Mother's Day is all about (and putting a smile on Mom's face in the process), in San Ramon is the place to go.
The theme of the day at the farm is “Thinking of Mom.”
At 10 a.m., kids will learn more about the woman who fought to make Mother's Day an official holiday in the U.S. (and succeeded in 1914) and the mother who inspired her. At noon, there will be a “Are you my mother?” quiz to see if you can match pictures of baby animals with the right mother.
There will also be an opportunity for kids to pen a letter to mom telling her why she is special.
Like every second Saturday at Forest Home Farms, there will be tours of the restored Victorian at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m.
There are also tours of the Forest Home Farms Historic Park, including the tractor museum, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Each tour lasts approximately 45 minutes and the fee is $5 per person or $8 for both tours taken on the same day. Tour tickets can be purchased in the Gift Shop. Children ages 2 and under are free.
The tours are free for members of the San Ramon Historic Foundation.
