The Future of Girls Youth Lacrosse in San Ramon

My blog is to promote discussions of girls youth sports in San Ramon and the growth of girls lacrosse.

The San Ramon Raptor Lacrosse Club, the City of San Ramon recognized youth non profit lacrosse club, is commitment to supporting the growth and unique development needs of women’s and girl’s lacrosse in San Ramon.  The  club is committed to providing a positive experience in youth sports for girls of all abilities.  Club coaches all follow the principals of the Positive Coaching Alliance.

Finishing our third year of operation the club has one of the fastest growing girls programs with a 2012 season participation of 79 girls.  Proudly our girls U13 team won the NCJLA (Northern California Junior Lacrosse Association) with an undefeated season.  This being said our season was very challenged in terms of coaching.  Program growth will be limited to our coaching resources which currently can not support more than 90 girls.

The challenges ahead:

1.  Coaching:  Recruiting and training enough coaches to grow girls lacrosse.

Raptors commitments:  Raptor lacrosse pays for training and US Lacrosse enrollment.  Training consists of online programs and field training with Theresa Sherry a Division 1 college lacrosse all star and other local girls lacrosse coaches.

We need interested San Ramon residents with any coaching experience to support this important effort.  Please reply to frank.abajian@sanramonlacrosse.com for more information.

2.  Recruiting Players:  Girls enjoy participating in sports with friends.

Raptors commitments:  The  club will work with any parents willing to put together a girls team.  Lacrosse is a great sport for girls not playing spring soccer.  The game concepts are similar to soccer and basketball.  Teams of all ages from 3rd to 8th grade are welcome.  Introducing the sport to 3rd and 4th graders is very important to the development of lacrosse.

Your ideas, support and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Frank Abajian

President
