Top 5 SRP Stories of the Week: Amazing Luke Dog Story, Webby Nomination, Starks Says Sorry

On Wednesday afternoon, a San Ramon family lost yellow Labrador named Luke near .

Later that night, they found Luke, who was at a San Ramon home. What made the story unique was that Luke went into the home himself. And at the home, there was another yellow Labrador, who was also named Lake.

Last week the mobile application called PulsePoint, which came from an idea from a non-profit foundation headed by San Ramon Valley Fire District Cheif Richard Price, as one of only five mobile apps worldwide nominated for a Webby Award.

PulsePoint alerts people trained in CPR if someone in a nearby public place has a sudden cardiac arrest. The application also directs people to the exact location of the closest publicly accessible automated external defibrillator.

The winners will be announced May 1.

The rhetoric went to a new level in the congressional race that will determine who the next congressman is for San Ramon.

On Wednesday, after being  by Eric Swalwell's campaign for bribery allegations, Pete Stark apologized, the Bay Area News Group reported.

Swalwell wasn't overly impressed with the apology, saying, "Congressman Stark has lost all credibility, and voters should consider the source: A member of Congress who has issued more public apologies than Lindsay Lohan."

Stanford and Cal women's soccer teams played an exhibition game at Dougherty Valley High on Saturday to raise money for families that have a child with Osteosarcoma.

The event was organized by friends of the Bochenek family, whose 10-year-old daughter Brianne (who goes by "Breezy") was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma last fall. Since, she has gone through chemotherapy cycles and had her left leg amputated in her fight to be cancer free.

Event organizers estimated about 3,500 people attended from communities around the Bay Area and more than $8,000 was raised.

The San Ramon Valley Unified School District is moving ahead with plans to continue the Transitional Kindergarten Program in the Fall (after a pilot year in 2011-12), despite the Governor’s proposed 2012-13 budget, which would eliminate the requirement of districts offering Transitional Kindergarten (TK).

“We continue to have tremendous interest in the TK program for next year, and we believe that, despite the confusion that exists around the program in the Legislature, it is in the best interest of our students and our district to continue to offer the program next year,” said Christine Williams, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.
