This Week in San Ramon: April 10 to 16

Unemployment: The state Employment Development Department reported that the jobless rate in Contra Costa County had a slight increase, including San Ramon, where the unemployment rate is at 4.7 percent, a slight increase from February's 4.6 percent. Read more .

Water: The board of directors of the East Bay Municipal Utility District discussed plans for a 5 percent rate hike for both water and sewer services starting fiscal year 2012. Read more .

Hospital:  opened its new wing. The new 8,900-square-foot wing includes the expanded hospital’s emergency department from nine to 16 beds. Read more .

San Ramon Valley Unified School District: The school board approved a reduction in hours for classified employees with possible layoffs for non-teaching positions. Read more . 

City Council: The San Ramon City Council has proposed changes to San Ramon’s general plan. Read more .

School: will be losing its current principal Denise Hibbard after this school year.

Hibbard has resigned and accepted a position in Illinois to be closer to her hometown and family. Read more .

Pakistani Cultural Festival: The community gathered to celebrate the third annual Virsa Pakistani Cultural Festival. Read more .

Contra Costa teacher awards: The Warren W. Eukel Teacher Trust will be accepting nominations for its annual teacher recognition program that will award three instructors with $10,000 each.

The competition is open to any public or private school teacher at any grade level in Contra Costa County. Nomination forms can be found here

School Auction:  is seeking donations for its online auction to raise money for key student services. Read more .
