The Jumping Jack Challenge

Join local residents and Americans across the country to set a world record

The California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, known as CAHPERD, is joining first lady Michelle Obama in a challenge as a part of “National Child Health Month" and Mrs. Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign to encourage children to be active.

So, what exactly is this challenge?  Together, people across the country are banding together to break a Guinness World Record for the most jumping jacks in a 24-hour period.

On Tuesday at noon, participants will do jumping jacks for one full minute without stopping. CAHPERD’s goal is that 100,000 Californians join this race to break the record.

To do this, more than 100 schools are being asked to participate.  San Ramon schools, like Walt Disney Elementary are taking part in this healthy challenge.

Students will take a minute out of their day to join children across the country and make Guinness history.

Walt Disney’s PTA President, Val Mohr says, “I think it will set the tone for kids to show that fitness is a fun healthy choice & a lifelong choice.”

On Tuesday, Michelle Obama will lead hundreds of students on the White House lawn to kick off this record breaking challenge.

Californians, not just children, are asked to participate. Whether you are at your desk at work and choose to stand up at noon and do jumping jacks in your office, or you decide to go to a local landmark like the Golden Gate Bridge to participate, all it takes is a minute out of a busy day.

To join in this record-breaking challenge, all you have to do is complete jumping jacks for one minute, either solo in your office, with a group of friends, with all of your co-workers, or at one of our local parks or even state landmarks.

Have a time keeper and at least one witness.  Snap a picture or take a video of your world record endeavors.  Visit kids.nationalgeographic.com/lets-jump to learn more about how you can participate.
