Heroes: In nearby Danville, the American Red Cross held a ceremony Friday morning to honor heroes who help their communities in Contra Costa County. Among them is a 90-year-old Lafayette man who still volunteers at Habitat for Humanity.

Police scandal: On Thursday, the San Francisco Chronicle reported a former San Ramon police officer connected to the CNET scandal is facing more charges. Unsealed court documents show Louis Lombardi is also being accused of purchasing two guns with state funds and using bogus paperwork to cover up the purchases.

Candidates' night: On Thursday evening, the three candidates for San Ramon City Council and the two candidates for mayor in the Nov. 8 election held a candidates' night. The event in the city's community center was attended by more than 60 people. You can read Patch's live coverage here.

Walk to school: On Wednesday, dozens of students walked to school at three San Ramon elementary schools. The participating campuses were Neil Armstrong, Coyote Creek and Live Oak.

Whooping cough: It was reported early this past week that nearly all students in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District had complied with the state's whooping cough vaccine law. Of the 17,000 students enrolled in 7th through 12th grade, only 13 students hadn't complied as of Oct. 1.
