San Ramon Valley Schools' Truancy Rate Listed at 24 Percent

The state data shows 50 percent of California High students were reported as truant during the 2011-2012 school year.

Truancy is defined as any student who misses 30 minutes or more of class time without a valid excuse at least three times in one school year.

Two San Ramon Valley High Schools Ranked in Top 100 in State

Dougherty Valley was ranked No. 59 in the state and No. 328 in the national rankings, making it one of 500 schools nationwide to qualify for a gold medal by U.S. News and World Report in its 2013 list of the nation's best public high schools.

Sixteen local elementary schools are participating in the contest, which challenges kids to walk, bike, skateboard or scoot to school instead of
riding in a car.

The program, funded by federal grants and business sponsors, is a partnership between the San Ramon Valley Unified School District, law enforcement and elected leaders from San Ramon, Danville and Contra Costa County. Click the link for more info.
