Things about Ocean Park of Hong Kong

1. The Best Amusement Park in Town

While many might say that Hong Kong Disneyland (one of must-see Hong Kong sightseeing) is the best amusment park in town, I beg to differ. Ocean Park is my favourite, it's an oldie but a goodie. This place has the best cable car ride in town, an amazing view of Repulse Bay and the Southern Islands, Great whites(yes, JAWS!) and other ... more pleasant creatures like Giant Pandas.

As for Disneyland, well, since I've been to the other parks, I can't help but compare the relative size of the park, the castle and the classic rides that were supposed to be there (eg. Big Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain, Small World) but aren't there.

I might change my mind one day but till then, I'd rather go see bottlenose Dolphins and Hong Kong's new pride and joy, Giant Pandas, LeLe and YingYing.

2. Fun day

One place that is a must to visit whether you're with kids or not is Ocean park. This is a combined theme park and underwater world adventure all in one. You have to spend at least one day in this huge park in order to go ride all the thrill rides and watch the shows. If you are planning to touch the dolphins then i suggest you wear a pair of shorts so that getting wet wont be a problem for you. A change of shirt is a wise thing to bring also and of course not to forget your camera!!! They provide lockers at the entrance so you can leave your stuffs there. But take note that it is a big park so it would kinda be a hassle to go back and forth to your lockers. Wear a sunscreen to protect you from the harmful rays of the sun. If you get dizzy when riding thrill rides, it would be better to take anti motion sickness medicine so that you would enjoy your day.

3. Family Fun

A really good day out, especially with kids, can be had at Ocean Park. It is easy and convenient to buy a transport and admission package at the Star Ferry Pier as we did when travelling from Kowloon side.
Once at the park do not throw away the park plan given on admission as it is a really useful tool in planning your day and ensuring you dont miss any of the attractions for your Hong Kong tour packages.
The lower level has a number of attractions and rides for younger children and some animals to see including two pandas who seem to spend a lot of time sleeping. The animal shows are well presented and informative with a knowledgable staff.
The cable car ride to the top section of the park has great views on a clear day. Once at the top it is easy to get around and choose what you want to see and do. The rides at this section of the park are more for older children and adults and there is more of an aquatic theme with daily shows including a killer whale, dolphin and sea lions.
The rear top entrance to the park has a giant escalator which will take you down in sections to yet more attractions including a shirt soaking water flume ride.
There are enough food and beverage outlets on the park to satisfy most tastes and they are reasonably priced too. This is a good day out but I thought it closed a little early at 6 pm and the last bus on the transport/admission ticket departs at 5:30 pm

4. Panda watching

Ocean Park is a theme park in the Southern District of Hong Kong Island (learn more via Hong Kong city guide). The marine-themed amusement park covers the area of Wong Chuk Hang and Nam Long Shan, and is Hong Kong's very own theme park.

The different parts of the park are connected by cable car, as well as the world's second longest outdoor escalator. The theme park currently has over 40 rides and attractions.

Ocean Park features a Giant panda exhibit, a butterfly garden, a shark tank, and a three-storey aquarium, as well as numerous rides. The park also has its own cable car system, which takes visitors from one side of the park to the other (the two parts are separated from each other by hills). The official mascot of Ocean Park is "Whiskers"?aa waving sealion.

Besides being an amusement park, Ocean Park Hong Kong also includes observatories, well developed laboratories, an education department and a Whales And Dolphins Fund.

Ocean Park Hong Kong was the first institution in the world to have success in artificial insemination of bottle nose dolphins, and developed numerous new breeds of goldfish, proving the standard of its laboratories.
