What Should Take Max's Place?

A new restaurant isn't always in the cards for San Ramon. When Chili's closed four months ago, a banking company moved in.

Max's Diner in San Ramon closed the day after Christmas to the surprise of many. What does this mean for the now-vacant spot?

According to LoopNet.com, the retail space is a vast 6,520 square-feet.

Unfortunately for some, another restaurant isn't always the case. When the Chili's on Crow Canyon Road closed in August 2013, Charles Schwab brokerage and banking investors moved in.

The city business license lists that Max's had 43 employees in November. There's no update as to how much of a notice workers were given about the diner's abrupt closure the day after Christmas.

Calls went unanswered from the building's realty company, Kimco Realty.

What would you like to see fill the space? Leave your thoughts in a comment.

The landlord pulled the lease from Chili's and moved the bank in

That would be perfect for Fat Maddies! They need a bigger space!

Not a lot of parking there, right? Maybe like a Demicas :) or ihop?

Ihop is a pit, we don't need an Ihop in San Ramon.

I love IHOP. A breakfast place would be nice. Also like BJs, cheesecake and fat maddies. Macaroni grill? Lazy Dog? Too bad we couldn't get a benihanas. Texas Roadhouse?
Sue January 07, 2014 at 12:10 PM
Ihop is the same as a Denny's and we sure don't need that around.
Cmilos January 07, 2014 at 12:21 PM
Oh Sue.. You sound ignorant. We don't need you around.

We need an Olive Garden in the area again, the one in Pleasanton failed many years ago but one would do well now ! I know, another chain restaurant but one that is well known for families and older folks.. which is what the area is comprised mostly of !!!!

IHOP, there already is one in the area !!!! Same with BJs, Cheesecake, Fat Maddies !!!! We DON'T need duplicate restaurants in the area no matter how busy it is !!!! Macaroni Grill, sure.. Same as an Olive Garden but they just closed one down ! ?
L C January 07, 2014 at 03:39 PM
Lazy Dog, sounds good but it may be going in where the Macaroni Grill was, see the Patch Sprouts and Shutter for article ! Texas Roadhouse was supposed to come at one time, would be AWESOME if it did !!!! Benihana's, ehhhh.. might be ok....

1) Izzy's Steaks and Chops! 2) Olive Garden 3) Red Lobster 4) Emil Villas 5) A good German Restaurant.
L C January 07, 2014 at 08:31 PM
Izzy just shut down last year, not enough business was the reason.... which to me means it did not fit for whatever reason(s). Red Lobster Dublin closed down also ! Olive Garden or some other different place would be a nice change !!!!
Cmilos January 07, 2014 at 09:12 PM
Corner Bakery would be good. I just think the parking area is so small and that area right there wouldn't be good for a big resturaunt like Olive Garden or Red Lobster.

I've created a poll to see what restaurant residents want in Max's place here: http://sanramon.patch.com/groups/business-news/p/poll-what-restaurant-should-move-into-maxs-space Feel free to check it out!

Wow - I'm only partly surprised that Max's closed. The last time i was there, it wasn't a very good visit. The place felt dirty and the food was just okay. I believe it was a franchise store, if that means anything.

The Fish Market would be a great asset to San Ramon.
