Loehmann's in San Ramon began their store-closing sale Thursday as the discount retailer is liquidating its assets after filing for bankruptcy in December.
Opened in 1921, the New York-based department store is closing all 39 of its remaining stores including locations in Sunnyvale and San Francisco.
The bankruptcy was the result of "increased competition in the off-price retail niche and limited access to capital," the company said in a statement.
There are 15 people employed at the retail shop according to last month's city business license.
There's no set date for the store's closure, located at 3161 Crow Canyon Place.
