Loehmann's in San Ramon began their store-closing sale Thursday as the discount retailer is liquidating its assets after filing for bankruptcy in December.

Opened in 1921, the New York-based department store is closing all 39 of its remaining stores including locations in Sunnyvale and San Francisco.

The bankruptcy was the result of "increased competition in the off-price retail niche and limited access to capital," the company said in a statement.

There are 15 people employed at the retail shop according to last month's city business license.

There's no set date for the store's closure, located at 3161 Crow Canyon Place.

Wow, what's going to be left in San Ramon? Everything is closing. Dublin, Pleasanton and Walnut Creek get all the stores and restaurants.

Wow - another closing! I just moved to the area thinking that there were a lot of great store options nearby! Hopefully they will put in a grocery store & family friendly businesses (restaurants, stores) nearby...no more finance/business type of places...where is everyone supposed to go to - Walnut Creek or Dublin??!

Even with the liquidation sale, their prices are still high.

They always have been expensive and not impressed with what they have to offer. Every once in a while you might find something worth buying, but that's a very unusual find.
