Furniture Shop Moving Up in a Down Economy

Wallbeds n More is opening up a new, larger showroom across from its old location on San Ramon Valley Boulevard.

In an economy where many home furnishing businesses have folded, a San Ramon-based wallbed business is doing just the opposite.

Wallbeds n More is moving across the street from their old location to a new and much larger, 1,728-square-foot retail shop on San Ramon Valley Boulevard.

The store sells wallbeds, also known as Murphy beds or Murphy wallbeds – a bed that folds up from the floor when not in use into a 17 inch-deep storage center.

Wallbeds n More has done well since its founding in Dublin seven years ago by Elizabeth Roller. The company has been in San Ramon now for more than four years.

Roller’s father was in the furniture business and owned a furniture store for decades. The idea to sell wallbeds came when she said she was looking to buy one herself.

“I was looking to buy a Murphy wallbed myself and I realized that there was really a niche market for this type of furniture,” she said.

Many people who buy wallbeds do so because they save space at home. Roller said. Because the bed folds up toward the wall at it’s headboard into a real wood storage closet that is only a foot and a half deep it is ideal for any space conscious customers.

Custom wallbeds can save space even more by coming with built in storage space, shelves and even built in office desks.

Wallbed’s n More only sells wallbeds and related components but Roller said that they can be customized quite a bit because she likes to work with her customers to fit their needs and to design a whole room around the unique piece of furniture.

The store will work with customers to measure a room, organize the room layout, choose the bed style, the wood and the added features, and will help deliver and install the wallbed when it’s finished.

Because of the detailed planning that’s involved in designing and building a wallbed, Wallbed’s n More prefers to work on an appointment basis.

But after a purchase is made, Roller said that customers are then considered, “our customer for life.”

If you ever move and need to transport the bed, Wallbed’s n More will help with moving services.

Wallbeds and More currently has franchises in 11 California cities, and in June will begin expanding into other states.

The new San Ramon location will become the company’s showroom headquarters, said Roller, providing display and selling models to other franchises.

The new location is at 2551 San Ramon Valley Blvd., Suite 111.
