Free Family Fun: Winter Break

Get out over winter break without spending anything.

It’s winter break time for the kids and some parents are probably counting the days until school begins again in January. If you're ready to get out of the house with your family while school is out, but don’t want to spend a dime, look no further.

Have you ever been to in Pleasanton, located at 4807 Hopyard Road? If not, this is your place over winter break. Not only is it an amazing store for educational supplies, toys, and games, but it's locally owned and an independent local gem — they also gift wrap for free. There is a train table for children to play with, marble run, all kinds of learning games set up as demos and so much more. Over winter break, they have many free activities planned for children:

Tuesday, Dec 27, from 2-3 p.m. is Whipple Craft Fun (ages 6+).

Wednesday, Dec. 28 from 2-3 p.m. is Wacky Weird Science (ages 6+).

Thursday, Dec. 29 at 10:30 a.m. is “Shake Out Your Sillies” (ages 2+).

Thursday, Dec. 29 from 2-3 p.m., is Cap It Off Jewelry (ages 5+).

On Dec. 27, 28, and 29, the is offering winter break movies from 3-5 p.m. Movies vary each day and all ages are welcome, and of course there is no cost to this engaging activity. Feel free to call ahead of time to find out exactly which movie is playing.

Head over to the on Dec. 28 at 6:30 p.m. and watch the Fratello Marionettes perform their puppetry magic!

The also has an exciting, fun, and free challenge for children. On Tuesday, Jan. 3, they are holding their first ever “Scrabble Tournament.” Players must check in at 10 p.m. Registration is free but required and is open now by calling 931-3400.

Want to head outdoors over winter break? Consider registering for the free New Year’s Eve hike at Sunol Regional Wilderness. Bundle up, catch an amazing sunset, and be ready to hike from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Register for this free family activity by calling 510-544-3249.
