Chicago's Metropolitan Deli in Pleasanton

A restaurant that won't leave you hungry.

I am still in utter shock and amazement that I wasn't able to sniff this deli out long ago considering its close proximity to the Pleasanton Sports Grounds.

I mean all the cold soccer games, hot baseball and softballs games I have endured that would have been made just a little bit easier had I been munching on a sandwich from !

This deli definitely pays homage to Chicago both in terms of the names of it's sandwich names: The Sears Tower, The El Train, and Michigan Avenue, but also in some of the items whose origin goes back to Chicago such as the Italian Beef sandwich and the Chi-Dog (Chicago style hotdog).

On a recent visit, I had to try the most popular menu item, the Italian Beef sandwich. It had plenty of thinly sliced beef on a crusty french roll with au jus for dipping. Typically this sandwich comes with both sweet and spicy peppers but I ordered mine with just the sweet type. It was phenomenal! This sandwich ran $7.25.

I also had the garlic fries. Now typically when you make the decision to order garlic fries, you have to look at the implications of that choice - hours or maybe even a full day of being reminded of the delicious but smelly decision. These fries were actually very mild in terms of their garlic flavor, and mixed with some parmesian cheese, I found them to be kind of addicting for a $3.50 plate.

My companion had the special, which was a Reuben sandwich. Picture marbled rye bread with pastrami, swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Thousand Island dressing. It had a tangy flavor and was delicious with salad on the side.

There are about 15 different sandwiches to choose from at Chicago's Metropolitan Deli, including a couple different grilled chicken choices, some meatball choices, some veggie and cheese choices, not to mention polish sausage, italian sausage, and gyros. The sandwiches range from $6.25 - $7.50.

Customers can choose from nine different burger choices, including a triple burger for $7.50 and a Boca veggie burger for $5.50. Chicken nachos are another option for $6.99 as well as three entree-sized salads in the $7 - $8 range.

For sides, you can have the usual french fries or onion rings but you can also find zucchini with ranch sauce ($4.50) or mozzarella sticks with marinara ($4.25).

You can also find bottled beers as well as beers on tap, plus wine by the glass or bottle.

Kids' meals include fries and a drink and include items like a corn dog, kiddie burger, grilled cheese, and more ranging from $3.50 - $5.

And don't forget the ice cream! The restaurant offers cones and sundaes, plus malts and shakes if you aren't too stuffed from your meal.

The Chicago Metropolitan Deli has flat screen TVs for sports viewing. Take-out and catering are available, including box lunches, trays, and desserts.

This is a great place to visit time and time again as you can always try something different but can count on it being phenomenal!

I've only been to Chicago's once, and it was delicious! Close to the DMV, too, so if you happen to need to make a trip there, might as well make the trip worthwhile and stop in at Chicago's!

Thanks for sharing that tip, Melissa! I wish I'd known this last month - spent an entire vacation day at DMV. Blech.

Sounds like they really serve good food! I am from the city and trying new places to eat is one of the reasons why I love our city very much! Actually, I also write a lot about our city and you can see them at http://www.680homes.com/san-ramon-real-estate/. I will definitely drop by sometime soon in Chicago Metropolitan Deli with my friends!
