Camp Allegro is a student-run summer band camp. This week-long day-camp is geared towards musicians entering 6th-9th grade who have at least one year of experience on a wind or percussion instrument. This event is an excellent learning opportunity, as well as a chance to meet new friends.

Campers spend the week learning more about their instruments with high school volunteer mentors. Campers are engaged in a number of different performance groups including large ensembles, small ensemblessectionals, and specialized workshops (such as percussion, conducting, jazz and more).

Ed Cloyd, director of the Monte Vista High School music program, conducts the week of morning rehearsals, letting middle school musicians learn what it's like to be in a high school band environment. Student counselors put on activities like water balloon fights and obstacle coursesin the afternoons.

The week ends with a fantastic concert and barbeque dinner at Monte Vista High, showcasing how much these outstanding musicians can learn in one short week.

Campers and counselors can register at our website, www.campallegro-srv.org. Scholarships are available upon request. At this time, we are able to accomodate wind and percussion instruments only.

Camp Allegro was founded three years ago by three Monte Vista alumni.

The camp will take place at Monte Vista High School.
