Art and Kites at Central Park

Residents of San Ramon can visit the Art and Wind Festival at the end of May to make arts and crafts and make and fly their own kites.

San Ramon’s Central Park will host an art festival at the end of May.

The San Ramon Art & Wind Festival will have 200 booths featuring arts and crafts such as paintings, sculpture, woodwork, toys, jewelry, hand-painted clothing, stained glass, music and photography.

The free festival also will have three stages with live entertainment as well as two children’s areas with rides, face painting, slides, giant hamster balls, a rock-climbing wall and arts and crafts.

The “wind” in the festival's name refers to the highlight of the three-day event: kites.

There will be free kite-making workshops for kids, hundreds of kites for sale – many of them handmade — and professionals giving kite-flying demonstrations throughout the event.

The fair’s sponsors even brought in kite experts from Wiefang, China – a city that is famous as the home of China’s International Kite Museum and Kite Festival.

There will be seven Chinese kite fliers and folk artists who will give a free artisan kite making and woodblock printing workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. May 28 at the .

Area nonprofits and volunteers will staff 26 booths to provide food. Pork and tri-tip sandwiches, hot dogs, hamburgers, gyros, nachos, salads, peach cobbler, ice cream and cotton candy will sold, with proceeds going to the nonprofits.

At 6 a.m. May 31, six hot air balloons will be launched from the park.

The San Ramon Art & Wind Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 28-29 at , 12501 Alcosta Blvd.
