Wild Pigs Find Their Way to Danville

While a horde of wild pigs have been pillaging lush yards in search of grub in San Ramon, it looks like another crew made a very visible appearance in the neighboring town of Danville over the weekend. 

The mess they left behind did, anyway.

The pigs left their signature sod sabotage on the track field at Tassajara Hills Elementary School on Saturday night.

“You can actually see the little footprints of the pigs going in and out of the gate,” said Sandra Schurawel, who noticed the turf in tumult when she dropped her son off at the school Monday morning.

This comes less than a week after the school celebrated the newly paved track  that encircles the field, a project that took upwards of $40,000 to generate and three years to complete, said Tassajara Hills Principal Anne Dodson.

The damage is visible from a distance, contained in large and deep clumps spanning the length of the field. The schools’ vegetable gardens, however, were untouched.

“They’re going for the grubs, not our fresh tomatoes,” Dodson said.

Instead of playing on the green turf, school children played on the asphalt courts next to the field on Monday.

San Ramon Valley School District will be out in the area to assess the damage sometime this week, the school’s office manager said.
