Park of the Week: Pine Valley Middle School Park

With a community gym open to the public, sporty Pine Valley Park is for more than just middle schoolers.

One of San Ramon's biggest prides and joys is the city's amazing park system. Our city has a whopping 53 parks spread throughout our vast community, ranging from small neighborhood playgrounds to multi-acre, multi-feature parks.

Each week we'll be highlighting one of our city parks, showing you photos, listing park features, and telling you what's special about them. We have so many parks that it will take Patch more than a year to profile each of them. So if you have a special park you'd like featured next, let us know!

Park of the Week: Pine Valley Middle School Park

Though first established in the late 1970's the Pine Valley Middle School campus was re-built in 2008. Now its 7.5 acres are a match made in junior high heaven for kids who want to get outside and get their game on.

Athletic opportunities are the highlight at Pine Valley with sports facilities making up 90% of the park's space. Kobe wannabes can dunk and dribble their way around the multiple full-sized outdoor basketball courts, while middle school sluggers can shag some fly's on the adjacent baseball diamond.

Behind the basketball courts, freshly mown soccer fields beckon young Beckhams, their new nets perfect for those who want to hone their headers. A tree-lined walkway separates the sporting grounds, with benches facing both the basketball courts and the soccer fields so observers can take their pick of games.

The middle school's campus is also host to the Pine Valley Community Gym, which first opened in 2002 for use by the City of San Ramon and the San Ramon Valley School District. During the school day the gym is full of Pine Valley Pumas, while after hours the city hosts Open Gym time and other programs for the public. The gym can also be rented out for private events.

Athletes and other active souls should definitely check out Pine Valley's prime recreation spaces.
