Five Things You Need to Know Tuesday

It's Jan. 25 – here's a look at some events and other activities you won't want to miss.

1. Get involved in local government: The Town of Danville has several meetings this week. The first is a joint study session of the Town Council and Planning Commission at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Next are the Senior Issues Subcommittee at 4 p.m. Wednesday and the Design Review Board at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. For information and agendas, see the Town of Danville calendar. The City of San Ramon has several meetings Tuesday: the Finance Committee, Redevelopment Agency and City Council. For times and locations, see the city website. 2.  Free services for seniors: 
Alcosta Senior and Community Center offers free services including legal counseling, HICAP (Medicare, health insurance and long-term care insurance counseling), resource for housing options, notary service, financial advice and computer tutoring. The center also hosts free blood-pressure checks from 11 a.m. to noon on the fourth Thursday of every month. The center is at 9300 Alcosta Blvd., in San Ramon. 3.  Mother’s Club: The Iron Horse Mothers Club (IHMC) serves as a resource and support group to mothers with young children in San Ramon, Danville, Dublin and Alamo. Many moms join the club to find a playgroup for their children, but it has much more to offer. The group holds activities throughout the year and "Sub Clubs" range from a book club to scrapbooking to golf. "Mom's Night Out" events are all about socializing without little ones. 4.  Congressional Internship: Congressman Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton, is accepting applications from college and post-graduate students to work in his Pleasanton and Stockton offices. High-school students will be considered for the internship on case-by-case basis. For more information, see our announcement on .

5.  Al Jarreau Concert: Tickets are on sale for Friday’s concert at the , 10550 Albion Road, in San Ramon. Jarreau’s innovative musical expressions have earned him seven Grammy Awards, multiple hits and scores of international awards and accolades. The singer has collaborated with George Benson, David Sanborn, Chris Botti and Herbie Hancock, among others. Spend the evening listening to hits such as "We're In This Love Together," "After All" and "Boogie Down." For tickets, call the box office at 925-973-3343. The concert begins at 8 p.m.  

The National Weather Service is forecasting another beautiful day; sunny skies and highs in the mid-60s. Tonight we will see clear skies and a low in the mid-40s.
