Five Things You Need to Know This Week

Week of April 18: Here's your need-to-know guide, San Ramon Valley residents.

Each Monday, we highlight some upcoming events in the San Ramon Valley.

1. Community Volunteers Needed – The City of San Ramon and the Town of Danville need volunteers. The San Ramon volunteer program, City Lights, is looking for a people to help at a variety of events this spring. Choose from various senior activities, a middle school dance, dance recitals, and the annual Wind Festival. To find more, see the City page here. The Town of Danville and local community volunteers are joining forces to Lend-A-Hand in the community, helping neighbors in need who reside in the Danville area with their spring yard clean up on April 30. The annual Lend-A-Hand Day event, now in its seventh year, provides senior citizens no-cost yard cleanup and minor home repairs. Volunteer applications need to be completed by April 22. 2. Easter Bunny Photos – Now that spring is in the air, stop by the Blackhawk Plaza Rotunda for a photo with the Easter Bunny each day from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. through Saturday.

3. Earth Day – Friday is Earth Day and in typical Valley style there are many ways to celebrate this week. On Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. the Dublin Library, 200 Civic Plaza in Dublin is hosting with environmental educator, activist, and author Linda Riebel. Learn how anyone can become an earth friendly eater. ] All week a local Girl Scout troop is having an drive at where you can donate your electronic waste to help save the Earth and support a good cause. Partial proceeds go to Red Cross Disaster Relief. See our link here on for all the details. On Thursday, The Vine, celebrates their first Anniversary with wine tasting. Join them and Sustainable Danville Area as they host an organic and sustainable wine tasting from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Vine at Bridges, 480 Hartz Ave. in Danville. “Earth Day Arts," the Town of Danville offers several activities for children and adults on Friday at the Village Theatre, 233 Front St. See our link here on for more information.  

4. Comedy Competition – One of the Town of Danville's co-sponsored groups, "Trapped In A Rumor," will be hosting their second Improvisation high school competition on Wednesday and Thursday at 7 p.m. Improv teams from East Bay high schools square off in a two day tournament. Those in the audience will enjoy the competitiveness of high school improv troupes from around the east bay. This event takes place at the Village Theatre Art Gallery, 233 Front St. in Danville. Tickets are $10, doors open at 6 p.m. For more information see the theatre website or call 925-314-3400 to purchase tickets.

5. Scholarship Deadline – April 29 is the deadline to apply for the  Dublin/SanRamon Women’s Club scholarship for next year. Graduating seniors from Dublin, Valley Christian, Valley, California and Dougherty Valley high schools and Venture Academy are invited to apply. Separate scholarships are offered for a female student at Dublin High pursing a career in music and for a female at Dublin High pursuing a career in accounting or business.
