Five Things You Need to Know This Week

It's the week of March 28. Here's your need-to-know guide, San Ramon Valley residents.

Each Monday, we highlight some upcoming events in the San Ramon Valley. 

1. Kindergarten information – The San Ramon Valley Unified School District will hold a meeting for parents who have children enrolled in kindergarten in the district who turn 5 between Nov. 1 and Dec. 2 this year. These children are eligible to take part in the . Come hear about the readiness and developmental foundation of the curriculum and instruction that will prepare students for a very strong kindergarten experience the following year. 
The meeting is at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the multipurpose room of , 5025 Canyon Crest Drive in San Ramon. For more information, call the school district at 925-552-5500.

2. Civil War Lecture – Wednesday evening, The San Ramon Library Foundation is sponsoring the lecture “How the Civil War Changed America." Come hear Gerald S. Henig, professor emeritus of history at CSU East Bay, as he discusses the vast and profound transformations spawned by this war. The free lecture is from 7 to 9 p.m. at the , 100 Montgomery St. in San Ramon.

3. Art and Wine Tasting – The Kevin Milligan Gallery, 408 Hartz Ave., in Danville, will be open from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday for a wine tasting with Cameron Hughes. Enjoy new releases by Cameron Hughes Wines and view the “Six Viewpoints Exhibition." It presents acrylic abstract paintings by Paula Boas, still life water colors by Sally Cataldo, figurative resin-mixed media sculptures by Jason Griego, abstract photographs by Ken Holden, landscape oil paintings by Kevin Milligan and surrealist oil paintings by Bill Sala. The event is free.

4. School District Benefit – in San Ramon has selected the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation for its Thursday “Community Support Day.” SRVEF will receive 5 percent of all revenues for the day, including groceries, in-store dining, deli and take-out. No coupon or flier needed. The store is at 100 Sunset Drive in San Ramon, and is open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

5. Cooking Demo – Draeger's Cooking school in Blackhawk Plaza is presenting “A Night in Spain” with The Peasant & the Pear’s Rodney Worth on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The menu includes organic baby green salad, paella and cinnamon flan.  Tickets are $50.
