Five Things You Need to Know this Week

Week of March 14: Here's your need-to-know guide, San Ramon Valley residents.

Each Monday, we highlight some upcoming events in the San Ramon Valley. 

1. Fashion Show Fundraiser: The American Association of University Women will host a fashion show today to raise funds to send junior high girls to math and science camps. The evening will feature local women modeling the latest spring fashions, a guest speaker, appetizers and wines poured by the glass ($2 fee) plus raffle prizes from local businesses. This event takes place at the , 12501 Alcosta Blvd in San Ramon from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased online here or at the door.

2. Aquatics Registration: The Town of Danville is taking registration for swim lessons beginning Monday for residents and March 28 for non-residents. You can register online or at the Community Center, 420 Front St., in Danville.

3.  Genealogical Society Meeting: The San Ramon Valley Genealogical Society meets at 10 a.m. Tuesday (and the third Tuesday every month) at the Danville Family History Center, 2949 Stone Valley Road, in Alamo. Each meeting features a guest speaker who will discuss some aspect of family research. This Tuesday’s topic is “Using the New England Historic Genealogical Society Website like a Pro." 4. Happy St. Patrick’s Day: There will be plenty of places to celebrate in the Valley on Thursday. The Blackhawk Plaza, 3454 Blackhawk Road, in Danville, will host "St. Patrick's Day Party in the Plaza," with live music, face painting, party favors and prizes for the most creative "wearin' o' the green."
 This family-friendly event takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. Most local pubs will have special celebrations and menus on Thursday, see our link for ideas.

5. Pre-School Performance: At 10 a.m. on Friday, Zappo the magician brings his disappearing dots and reappearing rabbits to the Village Theatre, 233 Front St., in Danville. Zappo is one of the most popular Bay Area magicians and has won numerous awards around the country. Space is limited. Tickets are $3 and need to be purchased for children and parents.
