Week of March 7: Here's a need-to-know guide for San Ramon Valley residents.
Five Things you Need to Know is back. Each Monday we will highlight some upcoming events in the San Ramon Valley.
1. School Auction: The San Ramon Valley High School online auction continues until Sunday at 10 p.m. With more than 400 items, the auction has something for everyone. Items include tickets to professional sporting events, gift cards for local restaurants, reserved seats for school events and vacation getaways. Proceeds of the auction benefit the high school. 2. Speaker Series: The San Ramon Valley Unified School District Series for high-school students and parents continues Wednesday with Kevin Lovell, Safeway NorCal Division district manager speaking about "The Skills Companies Require of Today's (and Tomorrow's) Workers." The presentation takes place at the , 10550 Albion Road in San Ramon from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The event is free, but registration is required and available here. 3. Author Event: Local author Penny Warner visits Rakestraw Books, 522 Hartz Ave., in Danville, to discuss her new mystery, "How to Survive a Killer Seance," at 7 p.m. Thursday. The event is free.
4. Town of Danville Senior Sneaker Trip: Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. take a guided tour of Treasure Island and Golden Gate International Expo with docent Craig Smith. Lunch and tour will be held at the U.S. Job Corps Culinary Academy. Cost is $42 for Danville residents, $50 for nonresidents. Price includes transportation, tour and lunch. 5. Local Concerts: End your work week by attending a Friday night concert. Join the San Ramon Community Chorus and the McGrath Irish dancers for a free St. Patrick’s Day Concert with classic Irish music and dance. The concert begins at 7 p.m. at the , 17011 Bollinger Canyon Road in San Ramon. The San Ramon Symphonic Band presents "The Art of the Wind Band," with its 65-member band under the direction of Larry B. Colón. It begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the , 10550 Albion Road in San Ramon. Tickets are available online, at the box office or at the door. Adults $6, children younger than 12 or with a student ID free.
