Did You See the B-17 'Flying Fortress' Over the San Ramon Valley?

Local photographer Steve Fenton captured the above photo of the World War II era Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress in the San Ramon Valley sky on Saturday.

The bomber plane was used by United States Army in Europe and the Pacific during World War II. It became known for taking on extensive damage in battle but still being able to return home.

"In the pantheon of World War II bombers, the B-17 unquestionably occupies the top position in the public mind," Air Force Magazine said in a 2006 article.

Why it was flying over San Ramon Valley Saturday is a mystery for now, but we're looking into it.
