Is San Ramon Becoming Ovecrowded?

No additional cops have been added to patrol since 2007, despite the city's increase of 18,000. This makes the current cop-to-resident ratio 1 to 15,230.

In a recent article about an increase in residential burglaries and an astounding uptick in vehicle thefts (up 110% since last year), some San Ramon residents discussed the city's inability to keep up with its population growth.

According the the report given by Police Chief Scott Holder, four to five cops are on patrol at any given time for the city's 76,154 residents.

That's equivalent to one cop per 15,230 people.

Although San Ramon is a safe place to live with low overall crime rates, some citizens voiced their concerns.

"Far cry from the population of 24,000 when I moved to this beautiful city in 1989. That explains why I see a SR patrol car once every 3-4 days or so. Obviously, adding more officers to the force is a problem that needed to be fixed yesterday," Janice P. Ellis commented.

Another commenter pointed to San Ramon's growth.

"Too many new home construction, over crowed roads and schools. Soon we will be known as Fremont North - if we're not already," was a comment left by 'Loardes' on the article.

What do you think? Is the city growing too big, too fast? Share your thoughts in a comment.
