People may often hear the expression “Follow your heart” but rarely hear “Safeguard your heart.” The latter phrase will be heard many times this weekend during the 2012 “Safeguard Your Heart!” District Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The convention is scheduled to begin Friday morning, July 13, at the Cow Palace and run through
The convention will highlight Biblical references to the heart. Program parts will also encourage self-scrutiny and reflection, amounting to a three-day examination of one’s own figurative heart. Attendees will see how protecting the figurative heart can help them to make wise decisions, improve family life, strengthen their personal relationship with God, and find true happiness.
Bible writers mention the heart nearly a thousand times, almost always in a figurative sense. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that it is of vital importance to understand what the heart represents because the Bible, at Proverbs 4:23, states that we need to safeguard it.
The convention will focus on Biblical statements that reveal how protecting one’s figurative heart will enhance the quality of our life now and preserve our prospects for life in the future.
Jehovah’s Witnesses are members of a worldwide Christian religion who actively share with others information about God, whose name is Jehovah, and about his Son, Jesus Christ. They view first-century Christianity as their model. They believe that in addition to drawing one closer to God, living by Bible principles gives purpose to life, promotes
strong family ties, and develops productive and honest citizens.
Individuals of all faiths are invited to attend and learn more about these topics. All three days of the convention, the program sessions begin at 9:20 a.m. Admission is free. Conventions of Jehovah’s Witnesses are supported entirely by voluntary donations. The Cow Palace is located at 2600 Geneva Avenue, San Francisco.
The next conventions will be held at the Sacramento Convention Center and Santa Clara Convention Center. The Sacramento dates are August 3, 4, & 5, and August 10, 11, & 12, and the Santa Clara dates are August 3, 4, & 5, and August 31, September 1, & 2.
