Dublin festivities will go forward as planned
Showers may be forecast for the weekend during the Dublin St. Patrick’s Day events, but it will not slow down the celebrations says Dublin Mayor Tim Sbranti. “In Dublin, we go rain or shine,” he said. “It [the rain] may impact a few bands or vendors, but we hope it clears.” “We have had rain before,” he continued. “Our ‘Plan B’ is no ‘Plan B’. This is an event the whole community looks forward to." Dublin City Councilmember Eric Swalwell says the weather may keep some at home. “But with a little Irish rain comes a rainbow and I’m looking forward to another treasured St. Paddy’s Day weekend,” he said. Sbranti is hopeful it will not rain the entire weekend. “The locals still come out and obviously we hope everyone still comes,” he commented…

Pine Valley Middle School art teacher Tricia Grame uses art project to bring perspective to her students and smiles to Vietnamese orphans.
An orphanage in the rural highlands of Vietnam and an art class at Pine Valley Middle School are literally and figuratively on opposite sides of the world. On one end you have 5- to 18-year-olds in classrooms without desks, raising chickens and pigs as part of a job, and going without medical and dental care in most cases. On the other end, about 7,500 miles away, you have Pine Valley. Tricia Grame, an art teacher at Pine Valley, has brought the two -- Pine Valley and the Vinh Son Montagnard Orphanage in Kon Tum (about 375 miles north of Ho Chi Ming City) -- together with a project she started at the school called Art Pal (think pen pal, but with art). "In my 25 to 30 years as an art educator, this is the most powerful project I've ever …

Art teacher Tricia Grame and her husband Richard traveled to the Kon Tum province of Vietnam to bring art into the kids lives. These are some of the photos.
Pine Valley Middle School art teacher started a project called Art Pals. It's like pen pals, but using art. She had her art class create stories and drawings on blank postcards for orphans at a Vinh Son Orphanage in the Kon Tum province of Vietnam, about 375 miles north of Ho Chi Ming City. Grame then took the postcards to the orphanage, gave them to the children there, and helped them create their own cards for the students back at Pine Valley. The project, Grame said, put smiles on the faces of the orphans and perspective in the lives of her students at Pine Valley. Read about that story here. This is a photo gallery of Grame's time in Kon Tum, as shot by her husband Richard Grame. Correction: In a previous story, Richard Grame was …
