What's on the Menu for Your Super Bowl Sunday Get-Together?

Don't know what to serve your guests on Super Bowl Sunday? Here are some suggestions.

Your favorite football teams have battled all season long – and come Sunday's Super Bowl Sunday XLV, it's down to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers.

If you're having guests over, you've probably already started thinking about what to serve them, food-wise.

San Ramon grocery stores have stocked up on Super Bowl Sunday favorite: Chips, dips, soda and beer are proudly displayed with team logos at any major chain.

Lots of us have our standing favorites. In my family, I'm always asked to bring my spinach dip (which, between you and me, I make following the recipe on the back of the Knorr’s Vegetable Soup Mix package).

Whole Foods Market in San Ramon has a healthy eating program to give its patrons suggestions about healthier alternatives to serve on game day. Try the Tandoori chicken wings with yogurt sauce instead of traditional Buffalo wings and fatty blue cheese dressing. Or, try some turkey chili or fresh salsa wtih lentil chips.

Avocado dips are another game day favorite, but they can actually be good for your health, too. Whole Foods suggests adding green peas to your traditional recipe for a healthier dip. And, of course, put together a veggie platter, so if you must snack, at least it's healthy.

For a heartier dip, San Ramon Patch reader Alisha Bedgood, shared with me her recipe for Buffalo chicken dip. Just watch this few-minute video.

If cooking's not your thing, grab some ready made food from Mexxi’s. With sample platters, a la carte trays of tamales, tacos, enchiladas and even a four-foot burrito that serves 18 people, the options in San Ramon are endless.

Or, for some eats you don't have to worry about heating up, check out Erik’s DeliCafe. A cold cut tray gives guests a chance to make their own sandwiches.

There are so many options. What are your favorite game day recipes? Tell us in the comments!
