San Ramon Man Killed in I-680 Weekend Crash

The coroner's offices identified Mehrdad Emami of San Ramon as one of the victims killed in the crash near the Crow Canyon exit early Sunday morning, the Contra Costa Times reports.

The Contra Costa County Coroner's Office identified Mehrdad Emami, 46, of San Ramon as one of the victims killed in a multi-car, fiery accident near the Crow Canyon exit early Sunday morning, the Contra Costa Times reports.

The name of the other person killed is being withheld until the family can be notified.

A 40-year-old woman from San Ramon, who was the driver in the car with Emami, has been hospitalized with major injuries.

At about 1:20 a.m. on Sunday morning, a Nissan Maxima collided with a silver BMW (the car with Emami and the 40-year-old woman inside) from behind.

The vehicles rotated out of control after the collision. There was roadwork being done at the time of the accident, and the Nissan struck a forklift on the driver's side and burst into flames, killing the driver, who has yet to be named.

The BMW also spun into the contstruction area, hitting an unoccupied Ford F-150, according to California Highway Patrol.

No construction workers were injured in the accident.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
