A gas leak briefly caused students to be moved from their classrooms at a San Ramon elementary school this morning, a school official said.

The leak was reported at Golden View Elementary School, located at 5025 Canyon Crest Drive, sometime after classes started at 8:35 a.m., according to Denise Jennison, the school's substitute office manager.

PG&E assured school and district officials that there was no danger to students from the gas leak, but as a precaution, students were moved to an alternate location while crews capped the leak, Jennison said.

Students were back in their regular classrooms by 11:45 a.m., she said.

PG&E went out to turn off the gas until the district fixed the line, which went to a site where there used to be a groundkeeper's cottage, which has since been demolished and paved over, according to the school district.

The line being shut off will have no impact to the school because it was only used for the furnace, which is shut off until winter, school employees said.
